Kansas Forest Service
Sustaining and enhancing natural resources and communities through forestry and wildland fire management.
The Kansas Forest Service, the nation's fifth-oldest state forestry agency, has been protecting and enhancing Kansas's natural resources since 1887. Our dedicated team supports rural landowners, communities, rural fire districts, and forest and arboriculture industries across the state. From our home base near Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS, we provide vital programs in conservation tree planting, fire management, community and rural forestry, forest health, and more.
With roots deep in Kansas’s past and a mission focused on a greener future, the Kansas Forest Service works every day to sustain and strengthen natural resources and the communities that depend on them. Whether it’s supporting wildfire suppression efforts, providing high-quality seedlings for conservation plantings, or partnering with programs like Tree City USA, we’re committed to making Kansas a stronger, greener place for all.
Plantings may function as wildlife habitat, windbreaks, wood lots, timber plantations, or educational and riparian (streambank) plantings.
The work of our agency impacts the lives and livlihoods of all Kansans. This work takes place through community forestry, rural forestry, conservation tree and shrub sales, wildland fire management, forest health, and forestry products.
